Pet Loss &
Bereavement
Losing a beloved pet can be deeply heartbreaking. For many, pets are family—providing unconditional love, companionship, and comfort through life’s ups and downs. When that bond is broken, the grief can feel overwhelming, isolating, and difficult for others to understand.
At Halcyon Counseling, we provide compassionate support for individuals and families navigating the pain of pet loss. Whether your grief is recent or long-held, our counseling services offer a safe space to honor your connection, process the pain, and move through your loss without judgment or shame.
We also offer specialized support for children coping with the death of a pet, helping them:
Understand and name the emotions they’re experiencing
Feel safe expressing sadness, confusion, anger, or fear
Develop healthy ways to remember and say goodbye
Build emotional resilience and language around grief
Feel validated in their love and loss
Using age-appropriate techniques like art, play, storytelling, and gentle conversation, we help children make sense of the loss while giving parents tools to support them at home.
Grieving a pet is real, and your feelings matter. Whether you’re navigating this as an adult, a parent, or both, you don’t have to go through it alone.

Walk & Talk Therapy
Marion County / Ocala, FL
Get outside. Move your body. Talk through what matters. Walk & Talk therapy blends traditional counseling with the healing power of Ocala’s green spaces — gentle movement, fresh air, and conversation — all in a safe, confidential setting.
WHAT IT IS
Walk & Talk therapy is a standard psychotherapy session conducted while walking together outdoors instead of sitting in an office. Sessions use evidence-based talk therapy techniques (CBT, mindfulness, person-centered approaches, etc.) adapted for an outdoor format. The goal is the same as office therapy: clarity, coping skills, symptom relief, and personal growth — but many clients find walking helps them think more freely and feel less stuck.
WHERE WE WALK
Sessions take place in and around Marion County and Ocala — on shaded neighborhood greenways, paved park trails, and scenic public spaces. Popular local backdrops include tree-lined trails, nearby springs and forests, with a favorite space being Jervey Gantt Park, which create a quiet, restorative atmosphere. I’ll select routes that are safe, accessible, and appropriate for your pace and comfort.
PRACTICAL DETAILS
Session length: Typically 50–60 minutes. Longer or shorter sessions available by request.
Pace & accessibility: Walks are adapted to your fitness and mobility. If you prefer to sit for part of the session or use a bench or picnic table, that’s fine.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, water, sunscreen/insect repellent as needed.
Weather & cancellations: Sessions follow a cancellation policy (posted on the intake form) and will be rescheduled for severe weather. I’ll contact you if conditions make walking unsafe.
Self-pay only: This is a private-pay service. I do not bill insurance. Receipts (superbills) can be provided on request for clients who seek out-of-network reimbursement.
WHO BENEFITS
Walk & Talk is well-suited for people who:
Feel blocked or stuck in traditional office talk therapy
Enjoy light physical activity and being outdoors
Struggle with anxiety, mild-to-moderate depression, stress, life transitions, or want coaching-style support
Prefer a less formal therapy setting
Walk & Talk is not appropriate for crises requiring immediate safety planning, severe intoxication, or conditions that require a controlled clinical environment. If you’re unsure whether Walk & Talk is right for you, I’ll help you decide during a brief phone or video intake.
WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE
Quick check-in (2–5 minutes) and safety/privacy reminder.
We begin walking; conversation flows naturally — processing emotions, problem-solving, skill practice (grounding, breathwork, cognitive reframing).
Periodic pauses on benches to reflect, practice techniques, or jot notes.
Closing summary and brief homework or skill to try between sessions.
FEES & SCHEDULING
This is a self-pay service. Fees, availability, and sliding-scale options (if offered) are listed on the Fees page or provided during intake. I provide receipts for clients who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurance out-of-network benefits.
READY TO TRY IT?
If you’re in the Marion County / Ocala area and want to enjoy nature while doing meaningful therapeutic work, I’d love to talk.
CONFIDENTIALITY & HIPAA
Your privacy is my priority. I maintain HIPAA-compliant record-keeping, secure electronic files, and strict professional boundaries. Important notes about outdoor sessions:
While I follow HIPAA regulations for record storage and client confidentiality, outdoor sessions have physical limits to privacy (e.g., other park users may pass by). I minimize risks by choosing quieter routes, scheduling at less busy times, and keeping conversations at an appropriate volume.
Before your first Walk & Talk, we’ll review informed consent that clearly explains privacy limitations, emergency procedures, and communication preferences.
If you need a fully private environment (e.g., for highly sensitive topics), we can schedule a telehealth session instead.
Professional Letters & Documentation
Serving Marion County / Ocala, FL and surrounding areas
As part of my counseling practice, I provide a range of professionally written letters and clinical documentation. Each letter is tailored to your specific needs and written according to legal, ethical, and professional guidelines. All services follow HIPAA standards, and documentation is provided only when clinically appropriate.
TYPES OF LETTERS AVAILABLE
VA Disability Letters
I offer clinically informed letters to support VA disability claims when appropriate. These letters describe relevant symptoms, functional limitations, and treatment history based on your work with me. I follow VA guidelines for clarity, accuracy, and clinical justification.
Please note: I do not determine disability status; I provide documentation that reflects my clinical perspective within my scope of practice.
Social Security Disability Letters
For clients pursuing Social Security Disability (SSDI/SSI) claims, I provide detailed therapeutic documentation when clinically indicated. These letters may include symptom description, functional impact, duration of treatment, and progress toward goals.
These letters do not guarantee approval but can support your overall application.
Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Letters
ESA letters are available to established clients when clinically appropriate and after a full assessment. ESA documentation includes the identified mental health condition and the therapeutic rationale for an emotional support animal in accordance with federal housing guidelines.
ESA letters are not provided after a single session and require an established provider-client relationship.
PROCESS
Consultation: We discuss what type of documentation you need and whether it is clinically appropriate.
Assessment: If necessary, I conduct an assessment to gather accurate and relevant information.
Drafting: I prepare your letter according to professional and regulatory standards.
Delivery: Letters are delivered securely through your client portal.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Letters are provided only to active or recently active clients.
Ethical guidelines require that documentation reflect accurate, clinically supported information.
I do not provide “guaranteed outcomes” or letters outside my clinical scope.
FEE STRUCTURE
Because each document varies in length, preparation time, and clinical complexity, fees are dependent on the specific service requested.
Factors that affect cost include:
Type of letter
Level of detail required
Record review time
Coordination with other providers (if needed)
Turnaround time (standard vs. expedited)
A full quote is provided prior to writing the letter so you know exactly what to expect. All services are self-pay.

At Halcyon, we proudly support neurodiverse clients and are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and neuroaffirmative space for therapy. Whether you're autistic, ADHD, or identify with another neurodivergent experience, your way of thinking, feeling, and being is honored here. We focus on understanding your unique strengths and challenges—without pathologizing—and work collaboratively to support your goals, needs, and autonomy.
-
At Halcyon, we hold a special interest in working with Highly Sensitive People (HSPs)—individuals who experience the world with deep emotional intensity, heightened empathy, and sensory awareness. We understand that being highly sensitive is not a weakness, but a unique trait that often comes with both challenges and profound strengths. In therapy, we create a gentle, affirming space to explore what it means to navigate relationships, work, and self-understanding as an HSP, and how to thrive without overwhelm.
-
As mental health professionals, we hold space for others every day—but that doesn’t mean we’re immune to struggle ourselves. In a field where we’re expected to “have it all together,” it can be difficult to admit when we’re feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or emotionally stuck. Many of us internalize the belief that asking for help is a weakness, or that we should know how to “fix it” on our own. But the truth is: we’re human, too.
We specialize in providing confidential, affirming support for therapists, counselors, social workers, and other healing professionals. This is a space just for you—where you don’t have to perform, protect, or problem-solve. You get to be the client.
In our work together, we help clinicians:
· De-stigmatize their own mental health needs
· Process compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout
· Navigate personal challenges without guilt or shame
· Reconnect with purpose and boundaries in their professional identity
· Access emotional regulation tools that support sustainable practice
· Be reminded that it’s okay not to have all the answers
This is a niche we hold with care—because we understand how hard it can be to reach out when you’re the one who’s supposed to have it all figured out. You deserve a space where your needs are centered, and your vulnerability is welcomed—not judged.
If you’re a mental health provider ready to receive the support you offer so freely to others, we invite you to reach out. Let’s help you keep doing your best work—by taking care of you.

Parenting can be deeply rewarding—but also incredibly challenging, lonely, and overwhelming. At Halcyon, we provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support for parents navigating the complexities of modern family life. Whether you're raising a child with special needs, adjusting to a blended family, or simply feeling burned out and disconnected, you're not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
We honor the full experience of parenting—including the parts no one talks about. It's okay if you don't love every moment. It's okay to feel conflicted, exhausted, or unsure. We're here to help you make sense of those feelings and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and connection.
We offer support for:
Parents of neurodivergent or special needs children
Blended and co-parenting families
Work-life balance and parental burnout
Boundaries, discipline, and communication
Grief, identity shifts, and “not liking” parenting moments
Navigating stress, guilt, and mental load
Whether you're looking for short-term guidance or ongoing support, our parenting work is grounded in emotional validation, practical strategies, and a deep respect for your individual values and family story.

Being a mom today comes with an impossible script—be the perfect parent, the supportive partner, stay youthful, advance your career, manage the home, and somehow do it all without missing a beat. You may be constantly juggling roles and responsibilities, yet feel unseen, underappreciated, or like you’re falling short no matter how hard you try.
At Halcyon Counseling, we hold space for mothers who are overwhelmed by the unrealistic expectations placed on them—from society, family, work, and even themselves. Whether you’re navigating identity shifts, burnout, aging, or the quiet grief of feeling invisible, you are not alone—and you don’t have to keep carrying it all in silence.
We help moms who are:
Struggling with perfectionism and self-criticism
Feeling like they’ve lost themselves in caregiving and performance
Grappling with age-related changes and pressure to “keep up”
Balancing work, home, and personal needs with little time or support
Longing to feel seen, heard, and valued for who they truly are—not just what they do
Therapy offers a space where you are the priority. A place to drop the mask, release the pressure, and reconnect with your authentic self—without judgment or expectation.
You deserve support, not just for what you do, but for who you are. If you’re ready to feel less alone in the struggle, reach out. You don’t have to be everything for everyone. Let’s make space for you.

In our culture, family is often idealized. We’re told that “family is everything,” that we should forgive no matter what, and that staying close is a moral obligation. But for many people, family relationships are complicated, painful, and emotionally unsafe. Choosing to go low or no contact with a parent, sibling, or other relative is a deeply personal decision—and one that can come with intense grief, guilt, and stigma.
At Halcyon Counseling, we understand the heavy emotional burden of realizing that closeness with family may not be healthy or even possible. You may feel torn between loyalty and self-preservation, love and hurt, or a deep need for peace and the pressure to maintain appearances. This is a space where all of that complexity is welcome.
We offer compassionate support to help you:
Untangle the confusion and emotional conflict around family dynamics
Identify and validate the experiences that led you to consider distance
Process feelings of guilt, loss, betrayal, or relief
Set clear, healthy boundaries that protect your well-being
Navigate the reactions of others who may not understand your choice
Reclaim your right to emotional safety, even when it means stepping away
You are not selfish for protecting your peace. You are not broken for needing space. And you are not alone in making this decision.
If you’re considering going low or no contact—or have already taken that step—reach out. We’re here to help you move forward with clarity and strength.

Mood disorders are emotional health conditions that affect the way we feel, think, and function in daily life. While it’s natural for our moods to shift from time to time, mood disorders involve persistent and intense emotional experiences—such as prolonged sadness, hopelessness, or periods of heightened energy and irritability—that can interfere with relationships, work, and overall well-being.
At its core, a mood disorder is not a personal failing—it’s a medical condition that can affect anyone. The good news is, these conditions are highly treatable. Through compassionate support, evidence-based therapies, and sometimes medication, individuals can regain balance and experience meaningful relief.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your emotions or unsure about what you’re going through, you’re not alone. Help is available—and healing is possible. -
Anxiety is a natural part of life—we all feel nervous or worried from time to time. But when anxiety becomes persistent, overwhelming, or begins to interfere with daily life, it may be a sign of an anxiety disorder. These conditions can affect how we think, feel, and respond to the world around us, often leaving us feeling stuck in a cycle of fear, doubt, or unease.
Living with anxiety can feel isolating—but you don’t have to navigate it alone.
Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to explore what’s beneath your anxiety, learn new ways to cope, and gently reshape the patterns that are holding you back. Whether you're experiencing constant worry, avoiding certain situations, or feeling overwhelmed by panic, working with a therapist can help you feel more grounded, empowered, and at ease in your daily life.
-
Addiction can take many forms—substances like alcohol or drugs, or behaviors like gambling, food, or screen use. At its core, addiction is often not about weakness or lack of willpower; it’s a way of coping with pain, stress, trauma, or emotional overwhelm. It may begin as a way to feel better or escape—but over time, it can create its own set of struggles, affecting relationships, health, self-esteem, and everyday functioning.
If you're feeling stuck in a cycle you can’t seem to break, you're not alone—and you're not broken.
Addiction often brings up feelings of shame, isolation, or hopelessness, but healing is absolutely possible. Therapy provides a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore what’s beneath the surface, understand the emotional roots of your behavior, and learn healthier ways to manage life’s challenges.
Together, we work to:
Understand the role addiction has played in your life
Rebuild trust in yourself
Develop tools for emotional regulation, coping, and self-care
Strengthen motivation, boundaries, and connection
Whether you're just starting to question your relationship with a substance or behavior, or you're already on the path to recovery, therapy can be a powerful ally in creating lasting, meaningful change.
Recovery isn’t just about stopping something—it’s about rediscovering who you are and learning how to move forward with clarity, compassion, and support.
-
Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to deeply distressing or overwhelming experiences. These experiences can vary widely—from accidents, loss, or abuse, to events that leave us feeling helpless, unsafe, or disconnected from ourselves and others. Trauma isn't defined by the event itself, but by how it impacts you.
Sometimes, trauma is obvious. Other times, it’s quiet and cumulative—stored in the body and expressed through anxiety, mood swings, sleep issues, difficulty trusting, or a lingering sense that something just isn’t right.
You might find yourself:
Reacting strongly to certain situations or people
Feeling numb, disconnected, or constantly on edge
Reliving painful memories or avoiding reminders of the past
These are normal responses to something that was not normal—and they are signals from your nervous system that it’s time for support.
Therapy offers a gentle, grounded path to healing. In a safe and supportive space, you can begin to process what happened, reconnect with your sense of self, and develop tools to move forward with more peace and resilience. Trauma-informed therapy honors your pace, your story, and your strength.
Healing from trauma is not about forgetting the past—it’s about reclaiming your present and finding safety within yourself again.
-
Healthy boundaries are essential for emotional well-being, yet many of us struggle to set them—especially if we’ve been taught to prioritize others' needs above our own. Codependency often develops when our sense of self becomes overly tied to caring for or managing others, leaving us feeling depleted, anxious, or unsure of who we are outside of our relationships.
You may recognize patterns like:
Difficulty saying no, even when you're overwhelmed
Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions or choices
Fear of conflict, abandonment, or being "too much"
Putting others’ needs first at the expense of your own
Losing your sense of identity in relationships
These patterns often have deep roots in early life experiences and were developed as ways to stay safe or connected. While they may have served a purpose in the past, they can begin to take a toll on your emotional health and sense of self.
Therapy offers a supportive space to gently untangle these patterns. Through boundary work and self-reflection, you can begin to:
Identify your needs and values
Practice saying no with confidence and care
Reclaim your time, energy, and voice
Build relationships rooted in mutual respect and authenticity
Boundary work isn't about becoming rigid or distant—it's about creating space for deeper connection with yourself and others. It’s a path toward self-trust, emotional clarity, and more balanced, fulfilling relationships.
-
Did you grow up with a parent who was emotionally unpredictable, dismissive, self-centered, or overly reactive? Maybe they seemed incapable of truly listening, turned everything back on themselves, or left you feeling like your emotions were too much—or didn’t matter at all.
These are common signs of emotionally immature parents (EIPs). Emotionally immature parents often struggle with empathy, emotional regulation, and connection. As their child, you may have felt more like the “adult” in the relationship—constantly managing their moods, suppressing your needs, or trying to earn the love and approval you never truly received.
At Halcyon, we specialize in supporting adult children of EIPs who are ready to understand their past and move forward with clarity, strength, and self-compassion. In our work together, we’ll help you:
· Recognize the impact of emotional immaturity on your sense of self and your relationships
· Heal from emotional neglect, parentification, or inconsistent caregiving
· Let go of chronic guilt, shame, or responsibility for others’ feelings
· Build healthy boundaries and develop emotional safety within yourself
· Explore inner child healing and reconnect with your own voice, needs, and identity
· Navigate complex decisions around contact, caregiving, or distance with your parent(s)
